  • Color Materials

    Funded May 9, 2023

The arrival of our color printer and toner didn't spark much excitement in our students, but they are really benefitting from what it has provided for our classroom. We have created visual aids to help increase their independence in following directions and routines, knowing what comes next, making requests, and knowing where to sit and hang their coats and backpacks. We are creating visually appealing, individualized learning materials and worksheets that are more engaging and motivating to them. Thank you so much for contributing to our students success for years to come.”

    With gratitude,

  • Special Materials for Special Kids

    Funded May 3, 2023

Our students were so excited when the boxes of materials arrived and they couldn't wait to try everything out. Since then, we have been putting everything to good use. Not all of our students have the motor skills to write, but there are so many other ways to learn and show what they know. The busy books and wooden puzzles are a fun and engaging way to build foundational visual motor and literacy skills. The laminator and velcro allows us to create durable activities for matching, sorting, and writing that we can customize for the individual needs of each student. They love using the adaptive scissors and writing tools because it allows them to participate in activities that would otherwise be too challenging. We love them because they also serve as a bridge to using standard materials as they build strength and coordination. We cannot thank you enough for your generous support that will impact students with special needs for years to come.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Milbauer

Many students struggle to develop the basic skills required to complete classroom activities from an early age. These delays can negatively influence their learning and self esteem. The materials in my project will help young students develop the fine motor skills needed for writing and using scissors. It is amazing how a few simple, well-chosen tools can make a huge difference in children's fine motor development and their confidence! Magnetic letter builders will give these future writers a solid foundation of how letters are made. Slant boards improve visual attention to writing tasks as well as correct wrist positioning to foster a mature grasp and legible handwriting. Triangular grips and specialty crayons also help students develop a mature grasp on their writing tools. Kids like to use dry-erase markers, and their use, along with worksheet sleeves also allow us to reuse paper and reduce the amount of waste we produce. Adaptive scissors provide a way for our youngest students and those with disabilities to participate in class art projects independently, while gaining the strength, coordination, and confidence to move on to a regular scissors if and when they are ready.
