Students with language and communication difficulties rely on visuals to make connections with the words they are hearing. Visual supports help students be able to use those words to communicate their knowledge, opinions and needs and to be an active member of the community. Black and white images are hard for students to make connections with and attend to. Providing my students visuals in color will help them acquire and use language with more success and independence. Having access to a color printer and extra ink cartridges in my therapy room will allow easy access for the students to be able to see and use language-based visuals. They will be able to use these images to improve their language and communication skills. These color images will help my students to ask questions, participate in conversations and share their ideas.
