East Harlem Bilingual/Special Ed. Students Defeat the Tech Monster

Funded Apr 9, 2019

My students were thrilled when the Chromebooks were finally out of their package and they could get their hands on them. They could not believe that there are people outside of their daily lives that think of them and invest in their education.

With the chromebooks, students were able to engage in purposeful reading by answering prompts on google documents and google presentations, practice and apply their math skills in Iready curriculum, and participate in fun games that allow teachers to quick quiz them and save their progress.

Not only did students gain experiences navigating the web, they are now more confident of their computer skills. Without teacher agency, they have created typing clubs, where they get in groups and have typing competitions in websites that time their typing. They are now more aware of ways and safe websites to research material for school projects and were even able to begin courses in coding.

This year, I have the same students now in 5th grade, and from day 1, were so excited to use the chromebooks. They are now much faster at singing into websites and finding what is needed to be successful 5th graders. We cannot express how appreciative we are of your generosity. It's already doing wonders!”

With gratitude,
