  • Check! Check! Can you hear me

    Funded Mar 9, 2020

Thank you so much for your contribution to our school. These microphones will be of great use to our actor/actress as well as to the audience. Our children deserve to express themselves theough the arts and with your collaboration this is possible. We all appreciate your generosity. Once again thank you.”

  • Fun Phonics Games

    Funded Jan 27, 2020

We are so grateful for all the phonics games we were able to acquire with your generosity. We have been able to play games and learn our letter sounds since the day the games came in. We were so excited when we saw the box. The students asked me to open it as soon as they saw it. Since then we have been so motivated to complete our works since they are used as incentives once their work is completed. We also use it for quiet time as a way to keep ourselves occupied and engaged during quiet time after lunch.

These games have served many uses in our classroom. The most impactful way we use them is by having the students complete their phonics work and then using the games once they are done. Not only does it reinforce the phonics work we are doing but it also serves as a fun incentive.

Once again, thank you for you generous contribution and making our phonics time fun and engaging.”

  • We Need Book Baggies To Take Care Of Our Books

    Funded Oct 31, 2014

We are deeply grateful for your donations which have made our reading experience a pleasurable one. The students have really enjoyed carrying their books in the new book baggies. When they first received the baggies, their faces lit with excitement. We explained to them the importance of taking care of our books and how these new baggies would help us do just that. We received the shipment and immediately asked the students to move their books from the Ziploc baggies to our new book baggies. As soon as we asked them to switch the baggies some of the students got up from their seats and without being told to, discarded their Ziploc baggies in the trash.

These baggies have also made easier the process of checking who has left their books behind since they are so visible. We make sure each child takes their books with them every night. We anticipate their reading levels will improve significantly since each child will be taking their books home.”

  • Help Stimulate Our Minds On A Rainy Day

    Funded Dec 29, 2010

We are so fortunate to count on your donations for our board games. These board games have been such a success and a joy to have that every time we have indoor recess our students look forward to playing with them. On rainy days we go to the auditorium and the students play as a class with the board games. Their favorite game to play is bingo since they get a little price at the end and at the same time they learn so much. An indirect benefit to playing board games has been that they learn colors, shapes, letters, numbers while at the same time enjoy a good time. The students have learned how to play these games to the point we have captains and the adults just supervise the games. The captains call on the letter and the other students put the pieces on the board. When they make bingo the cheer "one, two, three bingo!" and they all giggle. These board games have also been used as an incentive and a reward for good behavior.

The students were extremely excited when the packages came. They all cheered for joy when they received the games, their faces lit up. I explained to them that this was a donation form a very generous person and that we should be thankful for people who care about children and their education.

Without your generosity we would not be able to have access to these instructional games. Instead of playing the students would sit in front of a projector watching a movie and being bored. It is such a pleasure to be able to play and learn on rainy days. ”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Garcia

  • Healthy and Active Recess is Important, Too!!

    Funded Nov 1, 2010

We are so excited with all the equipment we were able to get thanks to your generosity. The students have used and enjoyed the equipment and it is so great to see them share and play with it. When we received the packages our excitement was so evident that everyone in our school could sense and feel it too. Prior to the arrival of the equipment we had been building the momentum for its arrival and once we received it we cheered and could not contain how happy and elated we felt. I remember that day vividly, their little faces lit up and were full of joy. As a teacher I was also so excited for them and shared the same joy and level of excitement. We cannot express enough our gratitude. The equipment is currently used mostly by the Kindergarten class. We want to encourage the little ones to learn how to take care of it and how to make sure we do not loose it. The cart has been essential to making sure all the balls, jump ropes, hoola hoops, and bean baggies are stored correctly and that we collect everything once recess is over. We have assigned two "captains"from each class to assist with the collection of the equipment. These "captains" are recognized by their yellow sash which they were outside at recess time. Once recess is over we blow the whistle and the student line up while the "captains" collect the equipment. This is a very organized process because we do not have children fighting over who will bring the equipments over to the cart for storage. Every week the students are rotated and new ones are chosen so that everyone gets an opportunity to carry out such an important responsibility. They are well aware of the importance of taking care of our gifts and making sure we do not loose it. This is an added lesson they learn.

Once again we cannot express our gratitude enough and share our joy and excitement your generosity has brought upon us. With all the things we have received we have learned many valuable lessons and share many laughter and good time. It is nice to see the children run, jump, play and share. Many lessons have been learned such as: how to share the equipment, what each equipment is use for, how to throw a football, how to jump rope, how to throw a basket ball, how to make a circle and throw the ball to each other, what to do if the ball rolls out of the playground (you should tell an adult and not run after it), what to do if someone does not want to share the ball with you, and most importantly how to play and be a kid. We appreciate your kindness and value your commitment to making sure our children enjoy a healthy and active recess, because it is important too. ”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Garcia

Students in our school come from very poor families who are trying to make ends meet. Our school is a Title I school. This means that 99% of our school population lives below the poverty level and is entitled to a free lunch program. Although the students in our school are very poor and have limited resources they are always eager to learn and are very enthusiastic. Our school is located in a very poor section of New York City. Most of our students live in housing projects or shelters. Across from our school there is a highway which exacerbates the impact of asthma in our children. The resources available to the school are very limited and we are unable to buy equipment for our students to play.
