  • Serving the Underserved

    Funded Jan 22, 2024

This project was so fun to see come through! Thank you for your donations and making it possible to happen. We received items to complete a service project. After finishing the book we were reading focusing on 2 homeless children we explained the project to our students. They were pumped to get to do something to serve the disadvantaged. What an opportunity for them to think about other children!

We were able to create 48 packages that included: a cake kit, hygiene kit, birthday goody bag, birthday card and bookmark for each child. The teachers were then able to go deliver it to the facility along with all extra materials which will be applied wherever it is needed.

We cannot thank you enough for helping with our service project.”

    Mrs. Williams

  • Novels, Books, Stories, Oh My!

    Funded Apr 29, 2023

Thank you for the nominated books we received. These books are amazing for the students to explore a variety of genres with quality writing. The students love to read these as their independent reading book. Each week they use their independent reading book to practice their personal goal. These goals range from character traits to finding the theme to identifying the social issues in the text. With these books we are able to push the students' thinking more.

The students in my classroom are avid readers. I wish you could see the look on their face when a new box arrives. They love the feeling of a new book in their hand and being able to share the story through "book talks" inside the classroom.

Thank you for supporting reading inside the classroom. The students and I are incredibly grateful for your generosity.”

  • Sprucing Up the Classroom

    Funded Nov 17, 2021

Thank you for your generosity and your contribution to our classroom! The new materials have really spruced up our classroom. The students love laying on the new rug as somewhere different to sit. The new chairs provide such comfort as they read and discuss with partners throughout the day.

The students were ecstatic when the boxes arrived. When they saw the giant boxes and realized they were new chairs they were instantly calling dibs to use the chairs first. They take great care of our resources and it is heart warming to see them so comfortable in their classroom environment.

I also received some items to spruce up my work area! It has really helped in the organization and day to day functioning in my classroom. I feel more at ease with a nice organizational system.

We feel blessed to have so many supportive people in our community. Thank you!”

  • New Literature to Love Learning

    Funded Mar 16, 2021

Wow! We were blown away when this project received full funding! Due to your generosity we were able to gain 40 high quality novels for our classroom. The students were pumped when the books arrived and I couldn't label them fast enough. They wanted the books in their hands immediately.

These books pushed the students thinking. These high quality novels brought up current social issues challenging the students to think deeper. The students were able to preview Middle School text and prepare for their summer reading.

All my students love these new books. They are eager readers and love the feeling of a new book in their hands. Thank you for your generosity! We are forever grateful!”

  • A Unique Perspective of a Historical Event

    Funded Dec 20, 2020

I write to you with gratitude! Thank you for your donation to my classroom set of books. Thanks to your donation every student was able to put their hands on the text, take it home and examine the text throughout the whole entire novel. During this text we related the story to what we were learning about in Social Studies. The students were able to see similarities in the story and historical events.

In my classroom we read a novel together. I will read some pages aloud and we will discuss working on skills such as inferencing, perspective, etc. Then the students will have time to read the book on their own to apply these skills.

The students couldn't believe this book. They loved how it tied into history. They were shocked at the results and are so grateful for your contribution. We thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Williams

  • Acquiring Award Nominated Books

    Funded Feb 19, 2020

Thank you for all of the books you donated to our classroom. The students were blown away by your generosity. The books came in perfect time before we had to shut down schools. Many students already had the books in their hand which were such a blessing in these unprecedented times!

Students are allowed to choose their own book for independent reading. These new, high quality books peaked their interest.. They were able to write about their reading through their reading entries. The students thought deeply about the theme and the way the characters change through the book. They enjoyed talking to me about the books they read as well as, to their classmates.

My students are gifted and talented so finding high level, high interest, yet age appropriate books is always a challenge. These books served that purpose. Thank you for your generosity!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Williams

  • Gushing Over Award Winning Books

    Funded Feb 28, 2019

These books have made such a difference in my classroom. The students excitement and energy to read these books has been contagious. I, myself have been reading the books as well which has sparked the interest of the students even more. These are the South Carolina nominee books so the students enjoy the fact that other students will be reading these as well and voting on their favorite book.

The students each chose a different book from the list and read the book. They then created a book trailer to present to the class to encourage them to read the book. These book trailers showed their engagement in the book. It also taught them how to summarize a book without giving away the big information. The students did a great job leaving everything as a cliff hanger. They included suspense, mystery and humor.

The great thing about these books is while they were so helpful last year is I get to use them AGAIN this year and year after year! It is truly the gift that keeps on giving. My students this year have already gotten into the books and I can't wait to show them the trailers to get them even more intrigued! Thank you for your kind generosity. You have made some very happy students and teacher!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Williams

My students love to read and are always challenging each other to read the latest and greatest books! Keeping current books on the shelf is a constant challenge. The books from the South Carolina Junior Book Award nominations will bring recently published titles into the classroom. Students are eager to read these books so they can cast their own vote for the winner in the Book Award. The students will diligently read at a minimum 3 of the books from this project to be able to participate in discussions and voting. Upon completing this project they will have been exposed to a variety of genres and be able to partake in rich book discussions. We (the students and I) look forward to receiving these books in order to grow during our independent reading time. The students will get to participate in book clubs where they chat about the books and debate on which one should win the final award!
