As each year begins, many of our rising third graders already begin to feel apprehensive and stressed about their very first end-of-grade test.
My goal is to create a comfortable and engaging classroom environment that will ease their minds and allow their full capabilities to shine! I have requested through this project this amazingly versatile desktop for independent reading, writing, using laptops, and other activities. This year in the state of North Carolina, third graders will be required to take their end-of-grade testing online. This requires an abundance of practice with using our Chromebooks. With practice comes a lot of time that students will be on these devices. These portable lap desks provide an alternative for desk sitting and allows students to become mobile while reading, writing, and even using Chromebooks. As with any device, we teach our students the proper procedures for using the device, one of which is that it must be on a flat surface. Multiple times a day I like to pull small groups to the floor, or somewhere around the room. These lap desks allow the students to work on their device away from the desk. Not only will the students benefit from being able to use their devices, but they will also be able to have an alternate reading space during independent reading, as well as writing time. I feel that this will make students very excited about whatever activity it is that they are working on. They are not just moving around the room with a clipboard, or a hard surface, they actually get their own portable desk. I have also included a rack for storage. As every teacher knows and can understand, space is limited in our classrooms and the rack will be very helpful!
