The use of music stands is a daily occurrence in my orchestra classroom. Whether practicing a piece of music for the first time, or putting the finishing touches on a selection for that evening's concert, our sheet music is always held by a music stand. In addition to the increased number of orchestra students we have already seen in these past few years, the increase of 15-20 more students next school year means that we do not and will not have an adequate number of music stands for our students. The most immediate problem this is causing and will continue to cause is that students have to sacrifice proper instrument playing posture in order to see the music on a stand they are sharing with other students. Even though they are great about sharing music stands, it is promoting the acquisition of poor performance habits. By having an adequate number of music stands, students will be able to avoid this issue and focus more on increasing their learning! By donating to our project, you will not only help to promote better daily performance habits, but in doing so you will help the students increase their overall musical achievement. Students will be able to focus more on the musical objectives at hand, and will not have to struggle just to see their sheet music.
