Buddy benches originally started in Europe and have spread around the world. When a student doesn't have anyone to play with, they can go to the buddy bench and sit down to wait. This will signal the other students they want to play and they can go up to the child on the bench and invite them to join them. Having the opportunity to sit on a buddy bench is a great option for students who may be too shy to ask other children to play or for someone whose friend is absent and does not want to spend recess alone. This is a wonderful way to teach inclusion and spread kindness!
