Reading in the Time of Remote Learning
Funded Sep 10, 2020Thank you so much for your donation to help me buy these books for my classroom. My students are enjoying reading some of the simpler books, and a few have chosen to challenge themselves by taking on The Hunger Game or Harry Potter in Spanish! They really enjoy having 10 minutes of class time to relax and read. We don´t have any assessments, just a reading log to fill out and track where they left off. This makes it a low stakes way to get them reading and learning more Spanish. They are often surprised to find out they can read a short book in Spanish and understand the story. I have two girls who chose the same book, so they sit in the hallway (6 feet apart!) and read out loud together.
While things are challenging being remote so much more than in person, almost every student out of my 100 has a Spanish book in hand to read whether at home or in school, and that is because of your generosity. We will enjoy these books for years to come, when hopefully we can return to a real reading time when the kids can spread out in my room and sit with blankets or pillows and relax while they read.
My students and I really appreciate your donation to our reading library.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Nelson
