Quilted Visualizations: Exploring Fraction Multiplication
Funded Jan 5, 2024Our "Quilted Visualizations: Exploring Fraction Multiplication" project provided students with a hands-on way to learn about fraction multiplication by creating quilt blocks that visually represent these concepts. This project made math more accessible and engaging, helping students understand how fractions work together through art and sewing.
With your support, we were able to purchase the necessary sewing supplies and math resources for this project. Your contribution helped students connect abstract math ideas with real-world applications, enhancing their learning experience and boosting their math skills.”

Funded Aug 16, 2023I wanted to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude for your generous support of our project on DonorsChoose, "Beginning the Flexible Seating Journey." Your kindness and dedication to education have had a significant impact on my students and our learning community.
My goal was to allow for increased comfort while students worked during class time. The students use the seating nearly every day and really enjoy using them during instruction on the carpet.
Thanks to your support, we were able to obtain the necessary resources and materials to implement the project successfully. The impact has been truly remarkable:”

This classroom project was brought to life by The SONIC Foundation and one other donor.STEAM PBL - Engineering Bridges
Funded Sep 23, 2019I would like to thank you for your generous contribution to our bridge building project. The students are using the glue guns and glue sticks you helped purchase to construct the bridges they designed after doing research about different types of bridges.
The students are excited to finally be at the stage where they are building the bridge and getting to use the glue guns. They are astounded that someone, a stranger, would help them get the materials they needed for this project and they are very grateful.
After they complete the building process, we will test each bridge to see how much weight they will hold before breaking. They are VERY excited about that stage of the project. :)”

Hand Sewing Quilts in Our Middle School Math Class
Funded Feb 17, 2019I would like to thank each of you for donating to our class project. The students worked hard to design quilt blocks that contained transformations and their designs were fantastic! We then sewed the blocks by hand. This part of the project turned out to be a bit too much for beginning sewers, but they gave it their best shot. You never know until to try!
The students and I learned a great deal by working on this project. Next year we will be using sewing machines instead of hand sewing. I think this will allow more students to be successful with the quilt block creation.
The current 6th graders can't wait to get to my class because they get to learn how to sew!! I look forward to another try with this quilt project.”

Discovering Pi: Inquiry-based Activity
Funded Mar 8, 2019I would like to thank you for helping to provide the materials needed for our Discovering Pi Activity. Myself and another math teacher teamed up to teach this lesson together and it went well because we had the appropriate materials.
Pi day (3.14) was brought to life in this hands-on activity. Students discovered that regardless of the size of the circle, the ratio between the circumference and the diameter will always result in pi!
The students enjoyed the art portion of the activity. They worked to create a collaborative art piece to hang on the wall.
Again, many thanks!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Hall
