Lice is a big problem in many schools. I personally got lice this year and now know, from first hand experience, how expensive and difficult it is to get rid of. Many of our students cannot afford to completely get rid of lice, due to no fault of their own. Despite lice going around, we have no option but to share two class sets of headphones between five classrooms. We do not currently have the funds to purchase additional headphones to prevent the spread of lice. Sickness and germs also spread through Kindergarten classes like crazy. Our students cough, chew on, and breathe on their headphones, which again, are shared between 90 students. If one student has a headphone chord in his/her mouth and then another student does the same with the same set of headphones, those germs are being directly spread. If every student has his or her own headphones, this would not happen because their germs, sickness, and lice would be kept to themselves. The headphones we have are also a cheaper brand and have been beaten and broken between all of the classes. I would love to purchase headphones that are not broken and work clearly for my students to use in our room. I want them to be able to hear what they are doing and be comfortable with new headphones.
