Get Lost in a Book!

Funded Apr 13, 2019

I would like to express my gratitude toward your donation(s) to support my project, "Get Lost in a Book." The looks on my students' faces when we received the books was almost indescribable. The look of shock, excitement, and appreciation all rolled into one.

For the remainder of the year many of my students visited our updated library eager to "get lost" in their latest adventure. Some students finished books quicker than ever before because they were succeeding in reading books from front to back. Having books on their reading level gave my students the opportunity to showcase skills that they were having trouble with tackling in the beginning of the year. For example, students who never wrote book reports were now handing them in, students who never wanted to conference about their books were now willing to have lengthy and detailed conversations. They were practicing skills such as identifying the protagonist/ antagonist, identifying the plot or conflict of their book. Skills I could only imagine they would eventually practice identifying and using.

It has been great to witness how much of a difference having books on the appropriate reading level makes for my students and it has been an honor working with Donors Choose to make it happen. Thank you all for your contributions!”

With gratitude,

Ms. Galakis
