This unit we are discussing Native Americans and how they lived in the past. Students will recreate the different types of dwellings. When students make their models of grass house, longhouses, teepees, igloos, wigwams, cliff dwellings, and more they will be able to explore why each of these houses were successful. This project will allow my students to figure out how they would need to build a house that will withstand the elements. After they build the house of their choosing they will write a short essay describing the pros and cons to their homes, why they think they built a sturdy house and form a hypothesis to the question, "Will this type of house withstand the Colorado elements." They will also discuss why the tribes that used their specific dwelling decided to do so. Their paper will also include research on how the family structure looked in these houses. In social studies, we have the unique opportunity to incorporate all the different subjects and this specific project will allow me to integrate math, science, English, and art in my lesson. Thank you for your consideration
