The flexible seating I've requested for my classroom is perfect for providing student choice options in my classroom. Most assignments are completed with partners or cooperative groups. Our classroom has a lot of floor room without tables and chairs. These seating options will fill in that empty space and provide additional seating when desks are not enough. Some students in my classroom live with ADHD. Even sitting for short amounts of time can be challenging. Being a child and sitting for a short time is challenging to begin with! Having the option of bean bag chairs, seat cushions, and lap desks will allow students to move freely around the class and find the best possible setting that will keep their minds and bodies focused during independent and group work. Studies show that students' stress and anxiety can be relieved with the simple option of student choice.
