Students with autism spectrum disorders have sensory and communication needs that can interfere with the learning process. I want my students to have the materials to jump-start their educational experience while socializing with others.
By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, you will ultimately help to increase their social skills. Social skills are very important when communicating with others. Communicating can be difficult at times for students with autism. Finding ways to help the students express their needs will give them the confidence needed to be successful. A listening center will provide a no distraction area where they can concentrate without other distractions in the room as well as give them a sense of making individual decisions about their choices. In addition, the students love to sit together and read picture books during social time. They also enjoy building different structures and putting puzzles together.
