This easel will engage my students during every lesson, across all subject areas. It will turn students into teachers, it will provide structure to student conversations, and it will allow me to provide visual resources during each lesson. In writers workshop, students will be authors, editors, and critical observers on this easel. In class discussions, the easel will support student conversations when I provide sentence starters or discussion questions. In math, the easel will help students express their diverse and often creative mathematical ideas while helping me model mathematical practices. This easel will center all of student learning, keeping all of my teaching supports within arms reach of every lesson.
An iPad and stylus will allow me to quickly record, track, and utilize data to advocate for students to receive special services. With an iPad, I will be able to spend more time analyzing data and providing for students' needs, since I won't be spending the time compiling and re-typing my handwritten notes. The use of this technology will let me snap pictures of student work, take recordings of students, and jot quick notes as I walk around the room. An iPad would compile all of my data in one place so I could analyze data by subject, by students, and across my whole class.
This technology will support me in being an advocate for my students in receiving special education services. Without an efficient way to track student progress, these processes become difficult and time consuming, making it harder to get students the help they need. With an easier way to track progress or challenges, I will be able to gather more data and accurately analyze it. The accessibility of this data will support me in meeting the needs of all my students.
