Integrating art through Project-Based Learning, in both, literature and social studies, will not only help the students understand the concepts being taught on a deeper level, but will truly inspire and spark their love of learning.
I think that students should be able to experience art everyday, not just in their weekly art class! I would love to incorporate an art station during reading and social studies rotations. I think that by having an easel, modelling clay, markers, etc., the students will be able to paint to respond to text, illustrate the events that occurred, the characters involved, the specific events that they were able to connect with, etc.. With clay, the students can create models of specific items from stories they have read, real-life artifacts they have seen, there are so many options! The art station will be in the room all year long and hopefully a station the students cannot wait to go to! During their social studies time, the students can do the same thing! Instead of responding to stories, they will be illustrating a response to events in time, specific cultures they have learned about and connections with new concepts they have learned. The opportunities are endless with an art station!
Meeting the learning needs of my students is essential to their success. Providing my students with the opportunity to connect with the text, their self, and world through art and project-based learning will allow them to think critically and creatively. Learning is supposed to be fun! I thank you ahead of time for considering and donating to my project!
