  • Lyons and Tigers are Theirs, Oh My!

    Funded Dec 27, 2019

The recorders will arrive just in time for these 4th graders to begin their recorder unit. They look forward to it every year and this year their recorders are their school color: orange! I can't wait to give them the great news about thoughtful donors who paid for the recorders!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Siefert

  • HEAR-YE, HEAR-YE! Ear-Resistable Headphones Desired!

    Funded Feb 14, 2019

Thank you for choosing my project to fund. Hillsboro Schools is a rural district with over half of the population receiving free or reduced lunch and, for almost 20 years, the students had been using the same headphones. Sadly, they were starting to poke or squeeze their heads. Other problems included static or only one side working when they were playing piano keyboards. Thanks to donors in your organization, I was able to provide brand new headphones for my students without having to ask our local business owners for financial support yet again.

We have been using the new headphones for piano keyboards and have found other uses for them along the way as well. We use them to play music games or apps on their Chromebooks or iPads which allows them to work independently and we also lend out the new headphones to students who need them for state testing.

Thank you all again so much for your generosity!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Siefert

This classroom project was brought to life by Herb Kohl Philanthropies and 2 other donors.
We live in a rural area where two-thirds of my students receive free or reduced lunch. They love the otherwise unattainable opportunity to get free piano lessons during music classes. However, many of our 18-year-old headphones have only one side working. They also squeeze or poke the children’s heads. When using our current headphones, students have to take their headbands or glasses off to avoid a painful piano experience. Some students just pull the headphones down around their necks and try to listen to their playing above the bustle of the classroom. I would like for donors to choose this project so that I can present new headphones to them as soon as possible.
