  • "Zen Den" Sensory Room

    Funded Jun 23, 2023

With your generous support, the students at Aveyron Academy are thriving! We have secured many new items which have had a positive impact on their day to day sensory needs. Some of the items that have been included are sensory lamps, rocking chairs, weighted vests and blankets, tumble mats, sequins walls and sensory toys.

Many of our students have difficulty regulating and when their environment is overwhelming or they are having difficulty with transitioning, they may demonstrate adverse behaviors. These times of dysregulation negatively impacts their academic success and socialization skills. Our sensory room helps provide proprioceptive input leading to less anxiety and more focus.

Thank you for helping us make our dream come true in creative a warm and welcoming, sensory friendly environment for our students.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Caitlin

  • New Year, New Site, Endless Opportunities!

    Funded Feb 9, 2019

Thank you so much for the donations! Without all of your support I would not have been able to give my students these engaging, functional and fun therapy materials. The noun, verbs and adjective cards have prove more versatile and engaging than I could have imagined. They are a staple in my therapy sessions regardless of goal or cognitive level. The real life photos are easy to relate to and have helped my minimally verbal students expand their utterances, talk about feelings and actions, learn object function and categories. My 8:1:1 students have been able to use these cards to complete problem solving scenarios as well as providing a writing prompt. The wobble seats and weighted lap lady bugs have significantly helped my students who are sensory seeking to regulate and focus more on the activities at hand. My students were so excited when we received the boxes! They all wanted to participate in the unboxing and that simple activity alone helped influence more natural question asking and socialization among one another. Many of the students have difficulty regulating their emotion and problem solving. We are currently using the social skills game to generate scenarios and environments the specific problem could occur and are make lists of various ways to avoid and solve these problems. This will help the students be more independent and have less behaviors when they are armed with a variety of strategies. Thank you again for your support!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Caitlin
