Low Art for High Tech
Funded Feb 11, 2019Thank you so much for your support. When we designed this project, we hoped that having a deep bench of creative and fun arts and crafts materials would bring a diverse group of students into the world of creative technology. I'm delighted to report that the materials you so generously provided did just that! It was really empowering for the students to be able to choose from a broad array of materials that are normally just too expensive to use on scale during class projects.
For this round, students used the materials to customize their inchworm robots. Students built the inchworm robots using Circuit Playground Express microcontrollers, alligator clips, and microservos. Adding paint, feathers, pom poms, googly eyes, and decorative tape made them unique to each pair of students. The glue guns and scissors were key to being able to construct the robots. The storage boxes kept everything safe and organized.
The good news is that we plan to continue to use the arts as an entry point in technology. This pilot project demonstrated that combination of arts and crafts and technology is a winner for our students. Up next? Adding music, 3D printing, and sewing into the mix. Look for future projects in each of these areas. Thank you for helping us get started with this exciting work.”
With gratitude,
