Funded Feb 14, 2019As an educator to urban, low-income middle school math students, I am moved by your generous donation to help math students succeed on a nontraditional method. Movement allows many students to focus better for longer periods of time. Students not only refocus but also move in such a way that is not disruptive of teaching and learning. While there is a bell ringer to start math class, students are quick to grab their wobble stools or cushions before beginning class!
Why not have math presented in a way that students can learn all the while playing board games and challenging each other to the next competition? The math board games bring math to life in real-world situations other than solving a variety of math equations in a workbook or a supplemental technology program. These games are so popular that students immediately choose the games over working with me in small groups.
Funding simple supplies also bring joy to our math class. You don't the power students have with a whiteboard and dry erase marker. They engage and immerse themselves in completing math tasks rather than the teacher showing how to complete each and every step.
While my project was funded 2018-2019 school year, future students will also benefit from your generosity!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Strasser
