As I look for more ways to encourage students to read, I find that flexible seating is really important. When they come to library it is often a nice break from the regular classroom routine, but sometimes students struggle to sit down at a table and read. Our library is situated in the northwest part of the building and has a beautiful view, and I have always wanted to be able to allow students to read outside. However, there isn't suitable seating for an entire class. I have 3 concrete tables outside my windows that will seat 6 students at a time but with distancing needed I can only seat 2 students per table. The other current option is for students to sit in the grass, but it is almost always wet. Other times, I host read-ins in the library and let students spread out over the entire space. Some students will read at a table but most of them want to tuck themselves in a corner away from other people. I usually find them lying on the floor and that's fine; some of them prefer that. However I think having something with an adjustable back would be more comfortable for students who want to get away from a table and chair and read somewhere else. I would love the opportunity for students to be able to take a portable cushioned seat and spread out in my space. Whether it is under a table with a stuffed animal for a read-in or an opportunity to enjoy a book in our beautiful Colorado weather, I believe these portable seats will accomplish that. Thank you for considering!
