The students in my classroom are greatly affected by the environment they are in. Many of them have difficulty sitting on hard desk chairs. Anxiety is a by product of being uncomfortable in the environment. Each of the students benefit from sensory materials being available to them. I am requesting inflatable core disk seat cushions, bouncy bands for desks and desk chairs, weighted lap pads and jumbo glitter tubes. These items can be used by the students when they are feeling overwhelmed or if they need help to feel clam. The sensory items will be used by the students as needed to help them meet their sensory needs. When the physical and sensory needs of my students are met, they will be able to excel academically. Sensory materials will help my students be calm and adapt to the environment they find themselves in. Teaching self management skills are intrinsic to our classroom. The students will be taught how to appropriately use these items. The items will be available for the students to use as needed. This project will benefit many of the students in my classroom by helping them feel comfortable in the classroom environment.
