I have a smart board in my room but no way to display written material for all to see. I give my kiddos printouts, but since they can't read yet, they are unable to read along with me. For emergent readers, it is very important for them to see how we read from left to right and that words have spaces between them. I will be able to model how fluent reading includes changing pace to match content and account for punctuation. I will be able to demonstrate that answers to questions can be found in the text and highlight the information. Modeling the use of text to improve fluency and comprehension is an essential part of the learning experience and one that I have been unable to initiate adequately thus far. I am also asking for a subscription to Time for Kids as I teach social studies and have no resources. This subscription will enable me to use high-interest, color copies of exciting current-event issues. They will find the main idea in various articles, compare and contrast information, make connections to their own lives, and view maps, charts, and photos.
