My students were resistant to reading a novel. They have overcome their resistance to reading and are really embracing their new desire to read. The Percy Jackson novels are the perfect stories to hook my student's interests. Percy Jackson is about a teenage boy who feels like an outcast and that something is wrong with him due his dyslexia. Many of my students also suffer from mild cases of dyslexia, which offers a connection to the character. The class also doubles as Creative Writing class. These novels will help my students understand how they can take the content of mythology and create their own unique stories.
