Science is all about experimenting, exploring, discovering and questioning and it's difficult to find material for every student. The items I chose are to make the kids experiment and try by themselves to understand the concepts taught in 6th grade: moon phases, water cycle, planets, density, gravity, etc. I look forward to make them work in groups or in pairs to see how the moon phases work with the STYROFOAM BALLS planted on a STICK representing the moon and the FLASHLIGHTS representing the sun for example. They will be able to see the parts that are in the lights when rotating the moon around the sun. The MAGNETIC PLANETS will be used on the whiteboard to compare the characteristics of each planet. They will be first anticipating just looking at the colors and sizes. Then We will be playing sorting games. gaz planets or solid rocks planets, etc. They will be doing it with small paper planet and one student will be moving the big ones on the board. The MAGNETIC ROTATING GLOBE will be my starter for the lesson about gravity. Why is it surprising that the globe is floating? What should it be doing? ( Fall down because of gravity) So why is the earth (or the other planets) " floating" in space? Why is it rotating?,etc The SCALE would be used to compare density. The CUBES have the same size but different mass. Students will compare the cubes visually and then weigh them to conclude that they have a different density. The WEATHER SCIENCE KIT will be used to observe and give a hypothesis on the water cycle. Finally, The MOLECULE KIT will allow the students to manipulate and understand the difference between atoms and molecules.
