Books: Bound for Success

Thank you for your caring and your generosity! I was taken aback at how quickly the project was funded. My students were very excited to have brand new books - books that even my struggling readers can read! The students enjoyed stamping the books with our school name and putting in stickers stating, "Donated by DonorsChoose.org" so that anyone who reads these in the future will know that we have them due to the generosity of donors.
We used these book sets to start a new section in our teacher Book Room: a section for intermediate grades only. That way we'll always have fresh reading material for our readers who struggle; they won't be reading something they attempted to read in first or second grade. These books will be new to them, and they'll feel successful reading them.

Students need to read on their own to maintain and build their reading skills. And therein lies my challenge. I need to help them read, read as much as possible, and read often. To achieve this goal, I need to provide these students with books they can read and books they want to read. This material needs to be easy to read, easy to comprehend, yet exciting and fun. Older students who struggle to read don’t want their peers to see them struggle; they need to maintain the appearance of success. Thus, their books should physically resemble those at higher levels, while being high-interest and at a low reading level. In order to maintain their current reading abilities, they need to read at least five books a week. To grow as readers, they need to read more. Please consider donating money to support reading instruction for these uniquely needy students.
