  • Meet Me on the Rug

    Funded May 11, 2021

I just want to send a follow up letter to let you know how things are going in the classroom since you so kindly donated funds for my group rug. Things are going great!

We are still in the middle of this pandemic and things are still not 100% back to normal, but we are getting there. Our current mandate from the state keeps us social distanced 3 feet from each other in first grade. Having this new group rug has helped tremendously with that. The squares are perfectly within the guidelines when I sit students every other square. Having this designated square has taken a load off my mind with close contact fears and helped with management. The kids love the colorful patterns and like to lay on it during reading time.

I want to thank you again for your generous support. It means a lot to know there are people out there that care and want to help.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. McCuiston

  • Can You Hear It Now?

    Funded Dec 3, 2019

I am overwhelmed with your generosity! I am about in tears just thinking about how wonderful it will be to FINALLY have a quality listening station with great books in cd. I can’t wait to announce it to my students! We have watched over the past few weeks to see how close we were to our goal. Thanks to you, WE MADE IT! Thank you so very, very much for your kindness and support!”

  • Art Smart - Using Our Creativity

    Funded Mar 26, 2019

Thank you so much for the generous donations of art supplies for my classroom. The students have really enjoyed getting hands-on with different mediums. We had a big Art Gallery for the parents to come and view the many projects completed with the donated supplies. The pride the children had seeing their work displayed was so wonderful. Even the mood of the other students in the school changed when they saw the displays. One person said "This is what elementary SHOULD look like." That made me happy because I feel art is often left on the backburner to testing way too often.

I cannot explain the excitement the students had when box after box of items would arrive in the mail. Each one was like a Christmas present to them and they waited with anticipation to see what treasures were stored inside. "What are those for?" "Can we paint right now?" The excitement built quickly! It was a joy to see them so enthusiastic about getting started.

My plan is to continue using the resources I still have available in order to share my love for art with my new group of kids this year. Thank you again for all you have done to make this a successful project.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. McCuiston

Studies show that students who are given opportunities to explore their creativity through the arts are happier, healthier and more successful. The supplies I have chosen for our classroom will help foster that creativity and help make students well-rounded learners. As of now, I do not have ample supplies for each student to participate in whole group activities. I am using supplies collected over the years from the beginning of the year school supplies provided by parents and much of those supplies, such as watercolors, are well beyond their lifespan. The hexagon trays help with the design aspect of visual art and will be used for instruction as well as production aids while creating. Also, I have asked for a drying rack (bumpers) because of limited space in the classroom to store projects while they are drying. The display supplies (matting boards, laminating film, tape etc) will help to make student work visible because celebrating student work is part of building confidence and pride in work. I would like to have an art show at some point for parents to celebrate the creativity of my students. Having professional looking display materials, students will understand the value that I place on their projects and hopefully gain pride in their work efforts.
