My students all have difficulties with sensory overload or sensory input in various ways. My goal is to be able to create a sensory friendly environment that meets the needs of each of my students. The materials I am requesting will allow for multi sensory stimulation as well the ability to put it away should my students need to limit the amount of sensory input they have. This will enhance my student's ability to focus, minimize stress and anxiety and increase learning within my classroom. Research shows that students with autism struggle with their sensory input/output and this cause extreme behaviors, increased stimming and a decrease in concentration. When we are able to control the amount of sensory a student with autism is getting we can enhance these areas and increase the amount of learning they can take in. I will be using the sensory table for water play and sand play. This will give my students the opportunity to use their hands, fingers and different tools to splash, wash, push, poke, shape, scrape and use tools to explore sand and water. They will be able to explore using multiple different senses including touch, smell, hearing and seeing! I will be using the alligator sensory wall to allow my students to explore multiple different hands on activities with great auditory feedback and explore different cause and effect scenarios.
