Bilingual Learners Hope for an Wireless Listening Experience
Funded Jan 28, 2019Thank you so much for your generosity! It is incredible to see what an impact such a small change can have in a classroom: quiet productive technology use. There were many disadvantages to having headphones with cords. Now that we are wireless students spend less time trying to find a pair that works (many of the wired ones were spotty due to loose cables) and instead spend more time doing productive learning and practice on the iPad.
My favorite advantage is the overall volume of the classroom! When headphones weren't working before I simply instructed students to use their math or reading app without them. Even having as few as six students working on a tablet can be disruptive and distracting if the volume is up. With the headphones there is less distraction for those doing other tasks around them. Furthermore the wireless headphones fully cover the students' ears and create a calm quiet environment for them to work also! One student has even used the headphones without a device because they block out surrounding noise.
The wireless headphones have taught students responsibility. They know how to check the level of the battery and where and how to charge them when they are low. Students have also learned how to troubleshoot issues with connectivity. Another positive impact is comfort. Students love how comfortably they fit on their heads. Many of us know how painful earbud headphones can be if they don't fit properly and this is especially true for children and their small ears. Our old over the head ones weren't much better; many were missing the plastic 'comfort piece' around the ear. Finally, I love how organized wireless headphones are. When they are not in use the wireless headphones are simply shelved. This is a drastic change from the messy basket of cords we had before.
The kids are so motivated to put the headphones on that I believe they get to work quicker and stay on task longer! Thank you again. ¡Muchísimas gracias!”
With gratitude,
