    Thank you so very much for the gift card from TeachersPayTeachers! With your generous donation, I was able to purchase several learning games to improve my students' reading skills. A few games I purchased were mirrored like Candyland and Uno plus a few others, but these two have been the favorites. Everyday they ask to play and on days they do play, they cheer and yell with excitement. The students play the same way as regular Candyland and Uno but they have to read nonsense words on the cards before moving their game piece.

    My students are assessed with a reading diagnostic where part of the assessment is letter sounds and decoding. The students that played these games on a regular basis have improved in these two areas of the assessment. Not only have they improved in these two areas, but their motivation to read the words has also improved tremendously.

    When I saw that my project was fully funded I couldn't believe it. A feeling of gratitude, happiness and excitement filled me. Reading the donors messages confirmed that I made the right project choice and the donors understood that needs of students are more than just academics.

    When my students first saw the Bouncy Bands they were smiling ear to ear and quickly sat down to try them. Some were swinging their feet, some were bouncing their feet and some where stretching their legs. They were so excited!

    After some days with the bands, I was working with a group of students when I suddenly realized the class was extremely quiet. I looked up and to my surprise ALL the students were working. I quickly looked at their feet and sure enough I saw bouncing, swinging feet. It was great to see the bands improve student focus. In fact student focus, assignment production, and learning increased so much that a reading assessment I administered at the start of the school year and again mid year improved at least 10% all across the board. The highest increase was 200%!

    Unfortunately, I won't get to see the full effect of the bands with this class due to school closures because of Covid-19. I am looking forward to using the bands at the start of a new school year and seeing the full effect the bands have on students.

Many of these students have been labeled as behavior problems when in reality they have no control over their current situation or do not know how to properly cope with their feelings. I want my students to show that they are capable productive students. With Bouncy bands and given the opportunity my students will increase productivity, feel comfort in the classroom setting, and learn self-regulation strategies.

About my class
