Creating Work Space for Special Kids
Funded Apr 1, 2019Your support and generosity has made a big difference here at PS 20. Here in this school with limited space, we can now always offer out students a desktop on which to write, color or type. These small blue desktop writing surfaces have become so handy for our students. We use them both in a chair and on the floor. They are great on the floor for younger children as they provide a nice tabletop surface even if they are sitting cross legged. The students are so at ease using them that many teachers have asked about the product and may order them for their classrooms.
The black wiggle cushions have provided a wonderful opportunity for the children who receive them to engage in active seated positions in their classroom environments. The children are able to wiggle on these firm cushions and this helps to improve their focus by providing in-seat movement opportunities.
Additionally the pencil sharpeners and taller stool seats have been so helpful for us as therapists to complete our work more efficiently. No more lost session time due to looking for a chair or for a pencil sharpener.
When the students first saw the materials they were very curious, especially about the small desktops. They eagerly use the desks in our sessions. The students who received black cushions had huge smiles on their faces. Their teachers report the cushions are helping them to longer sustain their focus when completing written work.
Your donation has had a very direct impact on these students and their Occupational Therapy sessions. We plan to continue to use these great additions to our therapy environment in the next school year to continue to help the children here at PS 20 to improve their writing skills, fine motor skills and more.”
With gratitude,
