Low-income students need year-round access to learning and a growing body of research shows that the weeks' students have off school in the summer months hamper student learning and exacerbates the divide between the haves and have nots. A 2011 survey found that just 7 percent of children from poor families attend summer camp, compared to nearly 40 percent of affluent children. Putting Amazon Fire Tablets in the hands of most at-risk students and providing them access and support over the summer is critical for their success.
