Your generous donation was received with great enthusiasm! Our students are even more engaged in the Explorers' unit. You can not imagine how powerful it is when students have their own color copies of a text, especially one as beautifully illustrated as Discovery of the Americas. Through these texts, the students immerse themselves in the historical period which raises the level of comprehension and discussion. And the Chromebooks are the icing on the cake! Because of your donation, students can instantaneously pursue research questions that arise from the readings. They gather at the interactive center and use the Chromebooks to further their inquiry. Additionally, I love how the tools you have provided are already impacting their writing. Thank you for making all of this possible. We are fortunate to have donors like you who help foster learning and inquiry.”
We are starting our next unit of study in American history: exploration and expansion of North America. Our goal is for students to research the events that led to the growth of the U.S., with an emphasis on the different perspectives of people impacted by Westward Expansion and settlement. Our students are especially enthusiastic about this time period because many are immigrants themselves, and are curious about the immigrants who built this country. We have set up a class webpage with links to educational websites, videos and interactive platforms where our students can research multiple perspectives on this important period of history. Sharing technology (laptops) with the hundreds of other 5th graders on our floor can often be restricting.
Having our own Chrome books at an interactive research station will give students unhindered daily access to Social Studies content.
Our students are already so enthusiastic about this new unit! These Chrome books and texts will significantly motivate our students to learn the importance of understanding the multiple sides of historical events.
