So far this year, our kindergartners and classroom teachers have made the best of their specials classes (art, music, PE, library, and Latin) being taught in the same classroom that they are in all day long. Having another room for these subjects allow students to get out of their desks that they spend most of their time in, as well as to change their mindset to be ready to learn these subjects. Currently, we have a space for these encore classes to be taught, but we are using full-sized folding chairs and tables as the students' tables. While these folding chairs and tables are somewhat functional, they are too large for the kids. They also pose a safety issue as students may slip through the middle of the chair or cause it to start to fold up if they adjust the way they are sitting to better see their work on the large table. I am asking for smaller tables and chairs so that all of my students are as safe and productive as possible. I have already seen what a difference it can make when students shift their physical location to learn a different subject; I cannot wait to see even more changes when we get the best materials for them to complete their work!
