In non-covid times, my students have open access to the library before school, after school, and during lunch. During open access, my students come to play Uno or exploding kittens, read books, or hang out. By playing games, my students will learn or apply collaboration, communication, and critical thinking skills—all of the "soft skills" needed for success in life. The library provides a safe place for students from all schools to interact and experience fun. Social-emotional learning doesn't just happen in structured ways or the classroom; it can happen across the game of Exploding Kittens. After school in the library, playing games offers students a place to mingle with students of all ages and schools. You could say we got "game" in the library.
