  • Multicultural Badminton Team

    I’m an Athletic Director in the City of Chicago were basketball is life for many of our students. We offer badminton as an option for the athletes that don’t excel at the main sports basketball, football, and soccer. Seeing your Association reach out and fund a sport that has nothing to do with basketball really makes me feel good. Again our school thanks you for this generous gift that will put a smile on our girls badminton team, and will be put to good use for our Physical Education classes.”

  • Multicultural Badminton Program

    Funded Feb 11, 2019

    I would like to that Ms. Wilker for the generous donation to our badminton team, with your help we were able to provide nets, rackets, and shuttles to our 2nd year program. Our team just competed in the City of Chicago Badminton Tournament and placed 5th, while one of our singles players took 4th place. My hopes next year we can continue to grow our program and increase our portable net inventory.

    With your donation we were able to provide a learning experience to a group of girls that would have never been apart of an athletic program. The coaches have instilled the values and importance of being apart of a team, to a team that really never learned the importance. The last 2 years it's been exciting to watch the team grow together and make a commitment to each other. This is unique since our school is so diverse and the students are more comfortable communicating with students from their own ethnic group.

The badminton material were looking to acquire will be used for our Physical Education class and our girls badminton team that we started last year. Our school population is over 1500 students that are required to take physical education, we would like to expand our badminton unit so we can accommodate more students. With the material were asking for this would be a good start. The Chicago Public Schools started a girls badminton program last year with Mather being one of the teams involved. Our team consisted of 30 girls with a very diverse multicultural backgrounds, with more girls anticipated this year. Our equipment that we use currently is inferior and needs to be improved for our growing program to succeed.

About my class
