Teaching has always been my passion. Since I was 6, I knew I wanted to be a teacher. Now, in my first year, I am teaching first grader while completing my master's degree in early childhood education through a program committed to social justice and activism. My commitment to urban education is life-long. I love what I do and I want to help my kids love school. They deserve it. I want to make this classroom feel like a safe, controlled learning space for students and this means creating autonomy over their seating to help them be successful and comfortable. Your donations will be used to help students access deep discussions about equity, social justice, and activism by allowing them to free their body from constraints and distractions. The items we are specifically hoping for are wobble chairs and yoga ball seats. By adding these items to our classroom, students will no longer be confined to the use of traditional chairs in our classroom. Their sensory needs will be met, they will be able to keep their bodies moving while their brain is growing, and they will recognize that their teachers care for their needs and wants and actually follow through to make them a reality. Our students cannot be expected to create actionable change if their classroom teachers are not doing working to create actionable change in their classroom. We want our kids to see that we value them. This means creating seating arrangements that help them focus and succeed.
