  • Basic Classroom Supplies

    Funded Sep 18, 2024

Thank you so much for your contribution to my classroom. My favorite part about the resources is that my students who are English Language Learners have access to decodables in our classroom library. They meet with me in small group and then are able to choose a book off the shelf that they can read independently to strengthen their phonics skills.

My students were very excited when they saw the materials. I have been able to provide them with snacks during the day when they are hungry. It is so important for students to have all their basic needs met so it has felt great making sure they are not concerned about being hungry and can focus on their learning.

The next steps are currently to continue reading the books that are at students levels. Students also are continually accessing prizes from the prize box when they earn a class reward. I am also going to create a social emotional learning lesson on responsibility using the stuffed cats and dogs.

Thank you so much again for your contribution!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Walsh

  • Reading Corner

    Funded Aug 21, 2024

My students are using the new resources in order to organize our reading material in a way that is efficient to student learning. They enjoy looking through and finding books quickly and quietly to read during independent time. They were so excited when they saw the new shelves and the rotating book shelf because it was a beautiful visual to all the options they have to read.

The book display is easy for students to see different types of fiction and nonfiction books as well as the opportunity to talk to their peers about the different types of books they can read. I have multiple of the same books so they can easily find a book to read with a friend.

I am working on adding my leveled books to the bookshelves so students can easily access books that are their level. It will be easier for them not only to find the category of book they want to read, but the correct level that will meet their needs. My goal is to continue to build our classroom library to help support the love of reading for all students.”

  • The Future of Room 16

    Funded May 10, 2024

My students used the new resources when interviewing for their dream job. They researched a career that they wanted and interviewed with me for this job. They had fun wearing their costumes during their interviews-it helped build their confidence.

My students were so excited because they had worked so hard on their career research projects and it made them less nervous to interview with me for it. They became experts in informative writing and were able to really showcase their hard work.

The next steps are to continue using the resources for a career research project with my next third grade class. I also want to use the lab coats for when we do science experiments so students can feel like actual scientists in a lab.

    I really appreciate your contribution.”

  • Literacy/Math Groups!

    Funded Feb 24, 2024

My students and I are using the resources to help organize classroom resources. It is easier and more efficient to store different lessons in the larger cart. We are also able to use the white boards to help support our learning in our small groups. It helps us practice our phonics skills and our vocabulary skills. My students were excited because this means we were able to use it to practice what we are learning in class. White boards are an efficient way for students to practice their writing as well.

My next steps for my students is to continue differentiating lessons to meet their needs in all subject areas. We will continue completing different science projects and use the carts to help organize the materials. It allows for easier transitions when teaching so many different lessons and groups throughout the day.

We really appreciate your constant support!”

    Ms. Walsh

  • Third Grade Scientists

    Funded Oct 6, 2023

We are working on a Gingerbread Spy Unit where students have been using the Spy Kit in order to determine which gingerbread character has taken our class gnome! They absolutely love the spy kit and had so much fun learning about what a spy does. They were able to do figure out a secret code using the morse code activity, see behind them with the rearview glasses, and try out the monocular and magnifying glass! We will be analyzing fingerprints next week!

As part of our spy unit, we will also be using our chemist kit! I cannot wait to see their reactions to these different chemical reactions. We will also be completing other experiments from the kit later on in the year. I also cannot wait to do the Lava lamps with them as well!

Thank you so much for your contribution again and encouraging Room 16's love of science. My students love doing science and sometimes it is hard to get the necessary materials to complete different projects-so thank you so much.”

  • Art Supplies

    Funded Aug 4, 2023

We are currently using the new resources for our art projects and science projects. We used the crayons, colored pencils, and markers to make our self portraits with our goals for the year. We also used the tape to engineer houses that would withstand the force of "the big bad wolf" after listening to "The True Story of the Three Little Pigs."

My students were really excited when they first saw the materials because it meant more opportunities for art projects. They love being able to create new things from the materials provided.

The next steps for my classroom are to continue different art and engineering lessons. We will do Pop Art next and then a 3D version of an animal. I am excited to give my students more opportunities for art this year because it wasn't something we always were able to do throughout the school year. This will allow them to express themselves in different ways. Your donation is appreciated so much. Thank you!”

  • Classroom Library

    Funded Mar 30, 2023

The very first book we read from our new collection of books was "Gratitude is my Superpower." We read it in a morning circle and then shared what we are grateful for and discussed the power of gratitude. I am looking forward to continuing reading aloud the various books in circles to help support social emotional learning and their love of reading as well as to help expand their imaginations, vocabulary, and critical thinking skills. We will be starting "When You Trap A Tiger" today during our chapter book read aloud time.

We have been participating in a "We Love to Read Challenge" where we are tracking as a class how many minutes we have read. We are almost to 10,000 minutes this month! We have been doing fun activities with reading like reading in a fort, reading with silly voices, reading with a buddy, reading with other classes, and reading with flashlights and blankets in the dark. Students love read aloud time and hearing different stories.

All my students are enjoying the new books because it gives them more options when choosing what to read during our independent reading time. We are incredibly grateful and we are excited to hear different stories from different perspectives!”

  • 3D Pen Engineers

    Funded Oct 26, 2022

We are using the resources in order to engineer projects related to the curriculum we are learning in class. Students are able to create something new with the filament we have. During science, we do stations to help utilize students' class time and to meet the needs of all students. So right now, we are learning about forces so we will do bridge stations where students will meet in a small group to read about forces, engage in a 3D pen assignment related to bridges, and then explore different types of bridges.

Students were so excited when they saw the materials because it meant we were able to continue working on 3D pen projects. One of my students was able to use the materials to create the Eiffel Tower (it took him four days). We are excited to continue to keep on creating new things and to continue to work on engineer projects related to the curriculum!”

  • Third Grade Engineers

    Funded Sep 14, 2022

So far, my students have been able to engineer their cars and learn about forces. They absolutely loved being able to collaborate with another to design a car that went the farthest. Every student was able to be successful in engineering a car and they were able to strengthen their understanding of complex scientific concepts.

Students asked me every single day when we would engineer our cars and were so happy when we finally did. Now, they are asking me every single day when we will engineer our boats and planes (which will be soon).

We have loved reading different read alouds that relate to the projects in order to strengthen creativity and comprehension skills.

They are so excited to be able to engineer their planes and boats next and continue reading the various stories related to engineering (Violet the Pilot especially). We appreciate your contributions always.”

I have been able to use these new texts to introduce important concepts to students such as feelings during our morning circles. We are constantly referring to "A Little Spot of Feelings" when discussing our emotions and when reflecting on ways to be empathetic. We read "I Promise" when creating our classroom vision in order to help build our community and purpose.

We have finished "The One and Only Ivan" already and are reading the sequel: "The One and Only Bob." We are also currently reading "She Persited: Florence Griffith Joyner" before we go to our physical education class during the week. We are working on finishing ten chapter books for our reading party.

We do read alouds as a class, we read in small groups, and we read independently. Students have been able to check out books and read them out home. They love having a variety of books to choose from!

All my students love the books and being able to hear the stories of other people's experiences. We are super grateful for being able to hear a variety of stories!”

Due to our growing program, some of our cheerleaders are still in need of supportive shoes. Currently, not all of our cheerleaders are wearing shoes that are necessarily the most supportive to perform in. Shoes are super important for basic support for stunting and tumbling in order to prevent injury. Due to financial reasons, our cheerleaders generally cannot go out and buy new shoes for cheer. We do not want our cheerleaders to ever feel limited because they do not have the resources. We want to be able to give them the basics so that they can perform to their best abilities and are comfortable performing. We want them to continue to grow as cheerleaders and having comfortable and safe shoes would allow them to push themselves even farther.
