School-wide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) which include proactive strategies for defining, teaching, and supporting appropriate student behaviors to create positive school environments. PBIS is used with all of our students and is implemented in areas including the classroom and non-classroom settings (such as cafeteria, hallway, bathroom). Here at my school we have created a PBIS Initiative connected to our school wide expectations of Respect, Engage, Achieve, Communicate, and Help (REACH).
Respect: Students are emotionally and physically safe
Engage: Students pay attention to the task at hand / person you need to interact with
Achieve: Student Complete their work and meet the expectations of the classroom and school.
Communicate: Students use their primary method of communication to express wants, needs, and can self advocate Help: Student support the community by doing various jobs.
As part of our School-wide PBIS strategy we are implementing The Anti Defamation League(ADL) No Place for Hate (NPFH) initiative. The NPFH initiative is school-wide and provides an organizing framework for combating bias, bullying and hatred, leading to long term solutions for creating and maintaining a positive school climate. My school will be completing three activities for the school year which will include topics around, friendship, respect, and disability awareness. Upon completing these activities and submitting them for approval based on the NPFH criteria. P53K@437 will be receiving a NPFH banner which we will then display in our school and be recognized as a No Place For Hate School for the 2018-2019 school year.
The resources we are requesting will help us celebrate our students in unique ways that highlight the differences between a regular celebration and these positive behavior celebrations. With the right tools our student can understand that their actions impact the community and their contributions make the school a better place for everyone.
