  • Let's Have Fun in P.E.

    Funded Jan 16, 2025

Thank you so much for your generous donations. The Physical Education program at my school does not receive a great deal of funding. With your donation, I am able to purchase new equipment for my students to use. The students love getting to play and learn with new equipment/activities. Without your donations, I would not be able to give them these new experiences. I am truly grateful. More importantly, my students will be grateful for the new equipment. THANK YOU!!!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Gambeski

  • Summer Fun in PE

    Funded May 8, 2024

Thank you so much for your donations. The equipment I purchases was used this past school year and I will continue to use it this coming school year (and hopefully longer).

The stacking cups can be incorporated in most of the my Units of Study. It is a fun tool to reinforce skills that they have already learned. I was able to introduce volleyball to students who have never played it. For the students who know how to play volleyball, they were able to practice their skills. They had a great time playing volleyball when we were outside for PE.

Thank you so much for your generosity. I purchased new equipment for all my students to use.”

  • Let's Play Gaga!

    Funded Jan 17, 2024

Our Gaga Pits have created excitement in PE classes. The 5th graders were eager to help me put them together. When the students entered the classroom, they all wanted to know what they were and when they were going to play with them.

Then it came time to play Gaga. Every student was actively playing Gaga (even the students who tend to be a little hesitant to participate). You could hear the screams of excitement while the students were playing. When it was time to switch and let new students play, you could hear groans. The students wanted to know when could play again.

The students were having a great time, while learning PE skills such as striking, hand eye coordination, and dodging (to name a few). I would not have been able to purchase the two Gaga pits without your generous donations. Thank You!”

  • Let's Play Disc Golf!

    Funded May 10, 2023

Thank you for your donations to "Let's Play Disc Golf". The students really enjoyed playing with them this year. I plan on using the Disc Golf sets with my students next year too.

Every year I teach my students how to throw and catch. I am always looking at new ways of teaching students these skills. At recess, I noticed that many of my students were throwing frisbees with their friends. I showed some of my 3rd and 4th graders pictures of disc golf and asked if they would like like to learn how to play. They were super excited about this new game. They could now wait for them to arrive at the school.

With your donation, I was able to introduce my students to a new game. They were very excited to play. Next year, I will incorporate the equipment into my throwing and catching unit.

    Thank you for your generosity!”

  • Hosting a Kids' Heart Challenge

    Funded Feb 21, 2023

My inspiration for this project came from one of my 3rd grade students. We were working on our throwing and catching unit. One of the stations was bounce passing. I mentioned that we would be doing a basketball unit in June. A student asked me if we could do a tennis or golf unit. I decided at that moment to create a mini miniature golf course for the students. I created 6 holes for the course with the input from that 3rd grader.

Our school participates in the Kids Heart Challenge. It is a day that the entire school (Pre-K through grade 5) comes to the schoolyard to play with various equipment. I put out the miniature golf course on that day. When the students saw it, they were so excited. They couldn't believe that there was miniature golf in the school yard. The students had a great time playing with it. It was something different. Some students had never played miniature golf before. The 3rd grader was telling everyone that it was his idea and Mrs. Gambeski created it.

I also purchased 2 giant Connect 4 boards with your donations. These will be used during 3 of our Field Days in June. I put them together and they are in the back of the auditorium. The students keep asking me about them. They can't wait to use them.

Thank you for your generous donations! The students have really enjoyed using all the equipment we have received. This project also helped me to provide experiences that are not necessarily part of the Physical Education curriculum.”

    Ms. Gambeski

  • Swing, Step, Throw

    Funded Feb 2, 2023

Thank you so much for your generous donations. My students have been using these new materials to practice and improve their throwing skills during Physical Education.

I set up the equipment in stations in the gym. When the students entered the gym and saw the materials, there were many oohs. Some of the students said that everything looked so cool. They were so excited to see new equipment for our throwing and catching unit.

The students have had fun with these new throwing stations. They will continue to use them throughout our throwing and catching unit. In addition. they will be used during our Kids Heart Challenge event (a fund raiser for the American Heart Association). This equipment will be used in future years when we teach throwing and catching.

On behalf of the students at PS 188Q, thank you for the new materials that we have been using in our Physical Education classes.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Gambeski

  • PS 188's Field Day!

    Funded Nov 10, 2022

Field Day is a P.S. 188 tradition that takes place every June for all our students in Pre-K through Grade 5. The students look forward to the fun filled event. With your donation, I was able to replace items and purchase supplies to create new events.

When the boxes arrived, the students were curious to see what I received. Since Field Day is not until June, I had students test out the items. They were very excited to try them out. They said that they cannot wait to use them during Field Day.

All students love using new equipment. Some of our equipment was very worn or broken. I noticed that our potato sacks had holes in them and the students' feet were going through the holes. Now we have new ones and the students will be able to do a true potato sack race. Last year I introduced the pizza box race to the students in grades 3-5. They really seemed to enjoy it. Unfortunately, the boxes do not last from year to year. With your donation, I was able to purchase new pizza boxes. Now we can bring back the pizza box relay race. These are only a few examples of how our supplies will be utilized in June. All the supplies that I was able to purchase with your donation will be used to enhance the PS 188 Field Day.

I look forward to Field Day because it is wonderful to see the children having fun playing the events and having a great time with their friends. Your donations will help bring smiles to the faces of my students. THANK YOU!!!!!”

  • Hoops for Fitness

    Funded Aug 14, 2019

Thank you so much for the donation of 36 hula hoops and the carry cases for them. These supplies will be used by the Phys. Ed. students from grades 1 through 5.

The students were very excited to see the big boxes opened to see the new hoops. Last year, most of hoops broke since they were used for multiple years.

My first graders have already used them playing a game called "Driving a Car". The hoop represented a car and the students were doing different movements while pretending to drive the car. They loved this activity.

Next week, the rest of the students will begin using the hula hoops. We will be starting our aerobic fitness stations and the students will look to see how using a hula hoop will affect their heart beats.

Hula Hoops will be used throughout the entire school year. I am so excited that the students have brand new Hula Hoops to use. The students will be excited too.

    THANK YOU!”

  • Building Blocks

    Funded Jan 16, 2019

Thank you so much for your donation! The students were so excited to see the giant blocks. They are really enjoying building with these blocks. The students will be using these new blocks in the Physical Education to make structures to crawl under or climb over. Today, the students were building tunnels and were crawling under them. They were trying to build structures bigger then me. They truly love when I take the blocks out.

Since the students have really enjoyed using these blocks, I plan on incorporating them into games with older students.

    Thank you for your generosity!!!!!!!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Gambeski

The Pre-K and Kindergarten students are learning about homes in their classrooms. I have incorporated the home unit into their gross motor stations. I will read the story of the Three Little Pigs and talk about the pigs built three different homes. The students will use large building blocks to create different structures in one of the stations. The Pre-K and Kindergarten students will use these large blocks to create structures to crawl through or jump over. These blocks will provide the students the opportunity to use their creativity while working on their gross motor skills. We have two sets of these blocks, but that is not enough for the students working in a station. The students love using these building blocks because of their large sizes. I also plan to use these blocks in future units.
