In a "man's world," the other yearns to be heard in a world designed not to appreciate their voice. Teachers must provide their students an opportunity for these voices to be heard. Among those calling out, the voices of women are seldom heard and I hope to change that. In my class, we will challenge this age-old stereotype by placing the voices of women at the forefront of our learning. We will explore the variety of stories captured in Sandra Cisneros's Woman Hollering Creek and Other Stories. The class will deconstruct concepts like Race, Masculinity, Femininity, Immigration, and Gender Stereotypes. Overall, the collection of short stories will expand their breadth of understanding the utilization of the English Language as a vehicle for Social Justice.
