Why should white boards only be for the teacher? I am not sure I know anyone that doesn’t like to get a dry erase maker in their hands and go to town on a shiny, white surface of a slick board. Thus, what better way to get my students to collaborate in their small groups than to give them mobile whiteboards. They will be able to work problems, record information from mathematical investigations, draw diagrams, and much more that they can not only share with their groups, but to the whole class from a larger writing surface! This is the new way of working together on an assignment. Then, when it is time to record their information on paper, everyone within the group has the cumulative solutions more accessible. Students perform better when they are in a comfortable environment. Therefore, I am asking that you help me create a collaborative learning space for my students that allows them to critically think, be creative, and grow as mathematicians while feeling canny. Comfy chairs and a area rug should provide a homey atmosphere for students to work! The remaining items I am asking for are materials that will help my students when completing other inquiry based learning assignments. Students will be completing interactive activities that will, at times, require clipboards (for easier mobility around the room), markers, scissors, etc.
