  • Graphic Novels Galore!

    Funded Oct 22, 2021

This project has opened doors into the magical world of reading for my students. Certain students who weren't interested in reading before, now gravitate towards the graphic novels we received from this project. They look forward to finishing their work quickly so that they'll have more uninterrupted time to read their new books. They love the fact that something that looks so fun and colorful still counts as reading.

They have already asked me about posting another graphic novels project.

Thank you for making this possible.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Bahramzi

  • We Are Hungry for More Reads!

    Funded Jan 28, 2019

The impact of the new books has been heartwarming. Thanks to you all, my students are engaged and excited when independent reading time comes around. We have been previewing a couple of the new books each day as a class. At the end, right before independent reading, I pick popsicle sticks to see who gets dibs on the books previewed! It's like Christmas every day. The students always look forward to the books that will be previewed the next day.

I have witnessed students who formerly were not interested in independent reading time, now devour entire series of books. They now understand the meaning of the quote, "There's no such thing as a kid who hates reading. There are kids who love reading, and kids who are reading the wrong books."

We are so very thankful for your kindness. Our students will su”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Bahramzi

Given the varying abilities of my students in my Special Day Class for those with specific learning disabilities, it only makes sense to have a variety of books to accommodate their needs. Being a second year teacher, my classroom library has a long way to go. Some of the accommodations these books and resources will provide include stories written in dyslexia-friendly fonts, a CD player and audio books to accommodate those with visual processing disorders, and books with plenty of visuals. This will ensure that all students have the accessibility and opportunity needed to become an avid reader. Today a reader, tomorrow a leader.
