Adding flex seating to my classroom can open up a world of engagement. I want my classroom to have the appeal of a student center. They'll have a chance to choose from a bean bag or a wobbly stool, whichever appeals to their mode of concentration and escape to a land of ideas. I think this would be difficult being constrained to a desk. Think about it. Although many innovators accomplished great things from a desk, most intellectual gatherings involve chatter in standing or extremely comfortable seating. This is where great minds get their best work done. How much time can we save by appealing to the sensory needs of our kiddos as opposed to redirecting them to their seats? A standing desk will allow my student who gets frustrated by the restriction of the seat to have the option to stand. Or even cozying up to a good book during independent reading while relaxing on a seated cushion. It is the ideas that should be expressed not the issue with the hard surfaces they have to endure. I would like the opportunity for more kiddos to have options. I believe this will increase their focus and attention tremendously. I have witnessed the benefits of flex seating from a few of my colleagues and I was extremely impressed with the level of engagement they were able to achieve from adding something comfy to the palate. By contributing to this project you would be assisting me with providing a comfortable space to collaborate and generate great ideas.
