Kindergarten Kiddos Need Interactive Learning Tools
Funded Sep 10, 2020Thank you so much for your generous donations. My students and their families were beyond thrilled to receive their materials, and are eager to use them wherever we get the opportunity.
With the whiteboards (and dry erase markers), I have noticed a huge increase in student engagement. We use the whiteboards on a daily basis, multiple times a day. Students have been able to get daily handwriting practice, and the lined side of the whiteboards has allowed them to clearly differentiate between uppercase and lowercase letters. They get to practice their phonics skills with the whiteboards as we engage in blending and sentence writing lessons using the letter and sight words of the week. During our math instruction, they have been able to practice writing their numbers as well. The whiteboards have also given my students a means to demonstrate their mathematical thinking as they work out word problems. They are able to refer to their work when it is time to share out their problem solving strategies. Because they use markers, their work is boldly written and easy for their peers to see and follow along (as opposed to pencil on paper, which is much harder to see virtually).
With the linking cubes, my students have been made their thinking more tangible by being able to manipulate blocks as they work on their counting and one-to-one correspondence. The blocks have provided them with a way to demonstrate composition and decomposition of numbers. We continue to use our linking cubes as we progress through our math curriculum, using them as a means to compare length and height as well, in addition to using them as a counting tool.
Thank you once again for giving my students the opportunity to take on a more active role in their learning during these unprecedented times. I see the difference that these materials have made for them, and will continue to make for them as we progress through the school year.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Vazquez
