Spicing Up Ninth Grade Reading

The impact this novel had in my classroom was incredible. It engaged students in each of my classroom each day that we read the novel together. On days that we were not able to read, the students were disappointed. Some of my students could not wait to find out what happened with the main character that they would read on ahead of the class. It was all I could do to stop them from engaging in discussions so they would not spoil it for their classmates. This book was a gateway to get students into books. We made trips to the library, and many of them checked out books for silent reading time in class. I designed projects during the reading of the novel you helped provide my students. I received some amazing things from many of them and shared them in my photos. Since quarantine, many students have checked out digital books and complete an activity each week on their novel. It is so amazing to see so many students into reading books. It was your help with providing my students with I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter, that many of them developed a love for reading and sharing what they read through discussions, activities and projects.”
