  • Support Mental Health Through Theater

    Funded Oct 8, 2024

Your donations have made such an impact on my students. We have been practicing for our production of High School Musical that will be taking place in March. My students have been able to express their feelings about being on stage on a daily basis while using the donations.

My students have shown such joy using the pom-poms while they are singing and dancing the songs to High School Musical. We can't wait to make props with all the other donations! My students have also started to design images to make with the vinyl, tumblers and canvas bags. We have set a date for our cast party, which we will be using the table clothes to celebrate the student's achievements. We are truly thankful!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Frank

  • Beating to the Music of Our Own Drums!

    Funded Dec 28, 2018

My students and I can not thank you all enough for the contributions that you have made to help my students get a chance to express themselves through music creatively with the bongo drums. When the bongo drums arrived, my students were so excited to have 'real' instruments to learn rhythm on. They were used to using student made or virtual instruments. I gave them a chance to explore the drums, and the sparkle and excitement in their eyes was priceless. Every student, including those students who normally do not like to participate in my lessons, was smiling and banging on the drums!

I am teaching the foundations of rhythm using the bongo drums. They have learned how to follow a metronome while playing the bongo drums. During one lesson, my students learned the difference between a slow tempo and a fast tempo while playing the bongo drums while listening to a metronome. This lesson took many different skills, and my students did a fantastic job!

My next step is to create a 'Bongo Band' in which every student will be reading music and playing their bongo drums together as a whole! My classes and I are so excited to have these drums and we thank you for donating to beating to the music of our own drums!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Frank

In my class, I plan on using the bongo drums to teach the students about rhythm. Each student will be able to use their own drum to show what they have learned during my class. Many of my students do not have the words to communicate what they're feeling; I'm hoping they can use the drums to express their feelings. Music is a universal language and I want my students to have all the opportunities to learn and communicate using the drums. Music is way for students of all abilities to express their feelings and emotions. Students on the Autism Spectrum don't always have the words to communicate and music is a way for them to do so!
