Students sometimes need a little motivation to complete their homework assignments. Homework assignments are much needed practice to ensure a student masters a skill. When a student skips homework assignments, it can put them behind other students in the class along with bringing down their overall grade. We have created a homework raffle for our classroom! Each time a student turns in a homework assignment, their name gets put into the raffle box. There is a weekly drawing for each class (3 students per class period) with prizes such as a mechanical pencil and a skip the lunch pass, a bag of chips, headbands, slime, etc. At the end of the 9 weeks, there is a raffle for a bigger prize. This past 9 weeks, one lucky student from each period won a gift bag containing candy, a bag of hot chips, a $5 Walgreens gift card, mechanical pencils, and a small notebook. The homework raffle has been funded mostly by myself, along with some contributions from one other teacher, so any help with this will go a long way. I would like to use Jolly Ranchers to ensure all students turning in their homework are rewarded. The other snacks - Takis, hot chips, headbands, mechanical pencils - will be used for weekly drawings and to help create an end of the 9 weeks prize pack.
