  • Love for Learning Students in Need of Computers

    Funded Dec 25, 2018

I want to first take this time to thank you from the very bottom of my heart for your generous donations. I am very thankful to have such amazing family and friends who are fully supportive of my goals and dreams as a teacher. Since receiving the Amazon Fire Tablets, my students have been engulfed in learning like never before. The tablets help me differentiate my learning to make sure all students receive what they need in order to be successful. For example, math has always been a difficult subject for my students to develop a love of learning for. But with the tablets, my students have fallen in love with different ways to represent their mathematical strategies and problems. The students are engaged in a website called Khan Academy. Khan Academy is a math website where students are assigned different tasks to do based on how they are currently performing in math. The students become so excited to pass new levels and move forward with their math learning. The students are also engaged in a website called I-Ready Assessments. This website allows students to watch math videos on difficult concepts that are struggling with, play math games based on their struggles, and lastly be quizzed on those concepts in order for the student to be able to move on in their academics.

My students are now excited to come to school and learn due to the Amazon Fire Tablets. My principal is in love with the engagement and conversations the tablets have allowed to happen in my classroom. She was so excited that she allowed my students to set up their own Google accounts so we may learn through google classroom. Google classroom allows me as the teacher to assign different writing and reading tasks to the students. After the student completed their task, they submit their final result to me to be graded and reviewed. While I read their responses, I am able to leave comments and feedback where the students can watch in real time in order to fix their errors. The students love the ability to practice their technology skills and even take these websites home to continue their learning. As a teacher, there is nothing better and more satisfying than watching your students engaged in their learning and wanting to learn more.

Lastly, my students have been able to move up reading levels thanks to the Amazon Fire Tablets. There is a website called Epic Books, where students are able to read an unlimited amount of books on and above their grade level. The students are so excited to read the books online, they asked me to take their tablets home so they can continue reading their book because they got to a part they can't not wait to read. Students earn badges and rewards for the class as they continue to read and finish their books. The students are finally excited to read and want to continue to read that I have to beg them to put their tablets down so we can move onto our next lesson.

I am eternally grateful for each and every one of you. No matter what amount you gave, you allowed me to achieve my dreams of becoming a better teacher. I have the enjoyment and the privilege to teach these children everyday and it is because of all of you that I now get to do this in a more effective and efficient matter. There are not enough words to say how thankful I am. I am truly at a loss of words, but please know, my students and I will never forget your generosity and the life changing learning you all have brought to us.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Rush

The Google Chromebooks will be used to help my children have equal access in the world of technology. My students are from a low income area and funding is very low. Our students need to be exposed to the power of technology and learn through a variety of ways. If my students receive these Chromebooks, they will use their technology to do research projects, write essays, and perform test preparation activities. The students will also have access to google classroom to perform activities online rather than the standard pen and paper. The Chromebooks will also be used for students learning to be differentiated. I will be able to send students work that is on their level without feeling that their work is easier or harder than the rest of the class!
